The Mexican President’s Message on Housing

Alejandra Sota Mirafuentes

● Mexico: Fifth State of the Nation Address / Presidency Blog

Today I would like to share the message on housing prepared by President Felipe Calderón on the occasion of the Fifth State of the Nation Address, which he will submit to Congress on 1 September.

On this occasion, the president visited the Municipality of Atotonilco de Tula in the state of Hidalgo. A new social housing complex has been developed there, whose first stage, called Paseos de la Pradera, currently has over 3,200 inhabited dwellings and over 5,300 sold. The federal government has subsidized the purchase of 2,317 of these dwellings.

Paseos de la Pradera is just one example of the ambitious public policy of this administration, designed to help Mexican families build their assets.

Paseos de la Pradera is the place where President Calderón describes the record progress in the provision of housing credits, focusing on the most vulnerable families. He speaks of the improvement of standards of living in these households and explains the measures taken during this period to enable the economy to progress and Mexicans to live better.
