Mexico Condemns Passage of Arizona's Immigration Law

Presidency of the Republic

The Presidency reports that the Mexican government condemns the passage of the "Immigration, Enforcement of the Law and Safe Neighborhoods" Law (SB1070) of the State of Arizona, signed on April 23 by Governor Janice K. Brewer.

Criminalization of the migratory phenomenon, far from contributing to cooperation and collaboration between Mexico and the State of Arizona, poses an obstacle to the solution of common problems in the border region and in North America as a whole.

The Presidency confirms its absolute commitment to the protection of human rights and the dignity of all Mexicans abroad, regardless of their migratory status. The Mexican government will use all possible means to support its citizens.
