AMLO Likened to Hitler, Mussolini, Huerta and Pinochet

El Universal, Mexico City

April 18 – “A television commercial* broadcast last night compares Andrés Manuel López Obrador [AMLO], the ex-presidential candidate, with dictators from history.

“The ad, sponsored by Mejor Sociedad, Mejor Gobierno [MSMG] that Guillermo Velasco Arzac heads, says: ‘Who closed the Congresses?  1933, Adolph Hitler in Germany; 1939, Benito Mussolini in Italy; 1973, Augusto Pinochet in Chile; 1913, Victoriano Huerta was the last to have closed the Mexican Congress.  Now, 2008, the PRD, PT and Convergencia [Party of the Democratic Revolution, Labor Party, and Convergence] have closed the Congress!  Our democracy is in danger, our peace is at risk!  Mexico does not deserve this!’

“The image of López Obrador comes out in the spot, [just after] it mentions the names of the dictators.

“On the Internet page of MSMG there is a communiqué that reads: ‘… the PRD has seized Congress as a ploy to impose its conditions for the debate on reforming Pemex.’”
