Canada Names New Ambassador to Mexico

The Minister of Foreign Relations of Canada, Maxime Bernier, announced the appointment of Guillermo Rishchynski as the new Canadian ambassador in Mexico.

Rishchynski, who was ambassador in Colombia (1999-2002) and Brazil (2005-2007), will succeed Ambassador Gaëtan Lavertu in the post.

Rishchynski entered the Ministry of Foreign Relations and International Trade in 1983, and up to 1999 he held various positions in Brazil, Jordan, Australia, Indonesia and the United States.

After concluding his work as Canadian ambassador in Colombia, Rishchynski returned to Ottawa where he was named Assistant Director of the Latin America and Caribbean Department in the trade division of the Ministry of Foreign Relations.

In 2003, he was named Vice-president of the Office for the Americas, of the Canadian Agency for International Development, and in 2005 he was named ambassador to Brazil.
